JIM JENKINS STATEMENT
My role as an artist can best be described as part sculptor, part engineer, and part choreographer.
The work primarily features the animation of text and objects to represent a situation or an observation. Inspirations also come from simple movements found in nature, such as the rhythmic flapping of a bird's wings to the hypnotic swaying of a cat's tail or a rolling wave.
While my process of creating a piece requires the same decision making as with any sculptor (i.e. composition, materials, scale) the kinetic aspects of the work combine, much like dance, moments of high activity, slower activity and rest.
